The E ects of LAN - like Input Tra c on a Switch Access Node Steven

چکیده
This paper addresses the modeling and analysis of a switching network access node. This is an area of importance due to forthcoming high-speed ATM backbone networks and the need to transmit data for current and future network applications. The nature of these applications must be considered when designing an access node to a switching network. A tra c arrival process for the network and characteristics of the access node are combined into an access node performance model. This model is implemented using Deterministic and Stochastic Petri Nets (DSPNs) which provides transitions with zero and deterministic ring times, as well as, exponentially distributed ring times, thus allowing the slotted behavior of the ATM interface to be captured in the model.

Performance of the TCP Protocol over ATM Networks
The segmentation process requi to carry TCP trafc over ATM networks can have an important e ect on the network performances. The e ciency of the TCP protocol over ATM networks is compared with the unfragmented TCP tra c, the comparison being based on the aggregate network throughput and on the throughput provided to single connections. Only a single switch with one-way tra c is considered; conn...
متن کاملBest-E ort Bandwidth Reservation in High Speed LANs using Wormhole Routing
Current quality of service schemes require switching nodes to identify and manipulate packets within large switch bu ers. These methods are e ective for networks with switching nodes that contain su cient resources, such as in ATM networks. However, in wormhole routing networks like Myrinet, the emphasis on providing low latency and high link speeds at a low cost precludes the use of intelligen...
متن کاملEeect of Input Traac Correlation on Clock Recovery in Mpeg-2 Systems Layer
We analyze the e ect of the correlation of the delay experienced by the video tra c stream on the quality of the clock recovered by an MPEG-2 decoder. We prove analytically that, for a general input process, high correlation of the delay samples produces a large variance of the recovered clock. We verify the analytical result through actual simulation of an MPEG-2 Systems decoder PLL with corre...
متن کاملATM input-buffered switches with the guaranteed-rate property
| There is considerable interest in the provision of guaranteed-rate services for IP and ATM networks. Simultaneously, bandwidth demands make input-bu ered architectures attractive, and in some cases, necessary. In this paper, we consider the problem of how to support guaranteed-rate services in a single-stage, input-bu ered switch suitable for a LAN switch, an ATM switch or an IP router. Such ...
متن کاملOn the speedup required for combined input- and output-queued switching
Architectures based on a non-blocking fabric, such as a crosspoint switch, are attractive for use in high-speed LAN switches, IP routers, and ATM switches. These fabrics, coupled with memory bandwidth limitations, dictate that queues be placed at the input of the switch. But it is well known that input-queueing can lead to low throughput, and does not allow the control of latency through the sw...
